World Teachers’ Day takes place every 5th of October to celebrate the exceptional dedication of teachers around the world. This celebration commemorates the anniversary of the adaptation of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which set the benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and the standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions (www.en.unesco.org).

There have now been one and more than half a year into the pandemic, yet teachers still encounter numerous challenges that hinder them from performing well. These hindrances are rooted in remote working and learning, specifically the effort to maintain learning continuity and quality education despite the limits of remote learning. There have been calls to open the schools and to revert to face-to-face classes. Fortunately, most countries have heeded the calls of their students and educators; a few, however, have yet to do so.

It is with this that Artdialogo Asia supports the 2021 World Teachers’ Day theme of “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”. Artdialogo Asia appreciates the dedication of teachers during this health crisis, and more so their response to it. Although faced with several issues, teachers from all over the world continued to provide online learning tools for their students. Their efforts do not just encapsulate the learning modules they print for their students in remote areas but include even the socioemotional and mental health support they give.

For all this, we thank you, our dear teachers, for your unyielding commitment to go above and beyond for your students. #worldteachersday #weloveyouteachers #covid19pandemic #artdialogocares
